DIAWU Updates and Upcoming Meetings!
Hi all!
We hope everyone is well and staying warm! See below for updates about DIA Workers United, key steps to build your union, and upcoming meetings so we can hit the ground running in the new year!
Key Updates:
There is forward movement and progress on DIAWU’s request for voluntary recognition through a card check process!
- At this stage, AFSCME Michigan’s legal team has shared revised card check and neutrality agreement language back to the employer that is pending their review.
- Card check and neutrality agreements discuss terms on things such as:
- What neutral 3rd party will verify that there is a majority of signed cards?
- How will disputes over job classifications be decided?
- Timelines for first bargaining
- Expectations around maintaining neutrality in the workplace
- Card check and neutrality agreements discuss terms on things such as:
- Both parties have begun reviewing the employer’s position in terms of job classification status and who falls under what category. Our priority is to create a bargaining unit to include as many job titles as possible within the scope of labor law.

In the midst of these exciting updates and progress, the best ways to continue building your union and generating momentum are:
- Talking to your coworkers and encouraging them to sign a membership card!
- Inviting them to a group meeting or to connect with an organizer
- Sharing updates and information with coworkers
- Wearing your button
