Thank You For Your Words of Support

In the past week, we have been overwhelmed with the outreach and support we have received from our community and across the nation. Your words of kindness and advocacy have truly helped us push our campaign forward and continue to grow our voice at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Over 1,600 people have signed our Community Support Letter, and that number continues to grow. Your collective voice has helped us build ours. Here are just a few of the great messages we have received:
“Nothing says Detroit soul more than a Detroit union! Go, workers, go! A unionized workforce will inspire me to support the DIA even more.” Elizabeth Underwood – Detroit, MI
“As a lifelong metro Detroit resident, I would love to see the workers who work so hard keeping our cultural connections protected! My wife and I are coming to visit this weekend for our anniversary. We would love even more reasons to support our local pillars and the workers who tend them!” Kyle L. – Taylor, MI
“Full solidarity with DIA Workers United. Detroit is the home of organized labor as the Rivera Murals so poignantly illustrate and the workers that work alongside it every day deserve a union and democracy in the workplace.” Jason Krzysiak – Pleasant Ridge, MI
“The DIA is a beautiful museum and the workers there do an amazing job to make the community experience excellent and they deserve their demands heard.” Liam McCracken – Canton, MI
“As a community member who loves and values the DIA, I wholeheartedly support the currently unrepresented workers’ move to unionize. In a museum with such powerful history in a union town, and one that holds art within its walls that explicitly challenges dominant narratives around the “Motor City‚” and its industrial past, I think it is essential that the DIA administration recognize this union and allow its workers to organize. Going to the DIA is one of my very favorite activities. I tell everyone I know, both in Detroit and outside the city we have one of the best art museums in the entire world. I say it truthfully and with pride. With a unionized staff, that statement will be even more prideful and I encourage you to recognize your workers’ organizing efforts.” Carolyn Alam – Hamtramck, MI
“As a longtime DIA member, I urge the DIA to recognize their employees' request for union representation.” Stephen Jones – Detroit, MI
“I love going to the DIA. It’s not only one of the best museums in Michigan, but in the United States. The workers deserve fair compensation and power in how they do their incredible work making the DIA the best in the country.” Joshua Johnson - Westland, MI
“The DIA is a magical place. What could make it even more magical is if the people who work there are respected and valued as much as the art that is displayed in those halls. Detroit is a Union city, from the assembly line to the hospital. Union work is as Detroit as a coney dog and an ice cold Faygo.”
Michael Castellanos - Lansing, MI
